Before coming to Cyprus, I begged the young man that we would head to the sea during my stay, whatever the weather. And we did. During off season, the beaches are pretty much empty and the sea even more so. We found a tiny sheltered harbour, with soft sand and clear water; home to Bob’s Watersports in the summer and with all the moorings hinting at its hectic bustle during the high season, but just ours for a few hours. We’ve swum in the sea, basked in some sunshine, drawn in the sand. I love the shock of the cold water, swimming until your limbs ache and then stepping out into the sunshine and lying on a warm rock. We’ve gone back a few times, and even baptised the new year with a dip. This is bliss if I ever did see it, even more so for the treat of it being midwinter. These quiet mornings with just the two of us have been one of the highlights of this trip. I hope these pictures and the memory of the sunshine can tide me over until the warmth creeps back into the air back home in England.
