So, any of you who follow me on twitter or instagram will already know that this holiday was a pretty special one for me. It still feels absolutely incredible and completely bizarre to say that I got engaged!
Because I know everyone loves a proposal story ( I know I do!), I thought I’d fill you in a little before talking about the rest of the holiday. Here’s how it all went 🙂 We flew out to Barcelona last Monday and got there in the afternoon. After getting to the hotel and settling in, we headed out to find dinner and explore the Barri Gotic a little bit. We wondered around the lamplit streets, ate some Tapas and had a glass of red wine before heading back to the Hotel. (p.s. yes, spanish red wine really is as strong as they say!) Basically, Barcelona is pretty much the perfect city for feeling romantic in! On our way back, we stopped by a supermarket to buy water, a few snacks and a couple of mini bottles of Cava to toast our holiday. Who doesn’t need snacks after dinner? Anyway, when we got back to the hotel, we sat out on our tiny balcony for a moment just to chat about the day and soak up the sounds of Barcelona… and then Charis got down on one knee. He said a whole load of wonderful things that got all jumbled in my brain and then gave me the most beautiful ring. I got teary and gave him the biggest kiss and cuddle ever before remembering to say yes! Needless to say, we popped open the Cava not long after 🙂 We didn’t tell anyone for a good few days so we wandered around the city with our little secret, just bursting into smiles all the time. I can’t even describe how lucky I feel to have this man in my life. Soppy, but true.
I am utterly in love with my ring. I saw this a few months ago online, and loved it. He remembered! It has a yellow gold band which crosses over to become the prongs to hold a white topaz solitaire- my birthstone for a November baby. It was handmade by an American company called Rosado’s Box, and I’m really happy that the Topaz is an ethical gem too. I don’t want my happy occasion to be as a result of someone elses exploitation. It is something not everyone wants to think about but it was important to me and makes me love my ring even more. I can’t stop smiling, and every time I look at my hand I remember that this guy and I will be travelling through life together. I couldn’t hope for anyone better to have by my side. He’s the best.
